Pence: CV-19 Could Be Largely ‘Behind Us’ By June If People Keep Following Safety Guidelines

Democrats and many of their allies in the mainstream media continue to claim that most parts of the country should and need to remain in lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

During an interview on the Fox News podcast “The Rundown,” Vice President Mike Pence was asked about those draconian measures and offered much more positive news.

Pence, who is leading the White House Coronavirus Task Force, said he thinks there’s a good chance that if people continue social distancing and being responsible that the coronavirus could be largely “behind us” by early June.

“It’s going to take all of us and doing everything that we need to continue to do to get through this. But, I have every confidence that we will,” Pence said.

Pence rounded out his remarks by saying his prediction of having things opening up by June relies on people continuing to do their part, such as social distancing and other guidelines.

“And, as the summer goes forward, we’ll continue to expand resources, expand testing work, to develop therapeutics and vaccines and…be ready for whatever may come in the future,” Pence added.

Pence said Trump has “made it clear” the administration would “do whatever it takes to see the American people, American families, and American businesses — large and small — through this time.”

“But, the most important thing we can do is put the coronavirus behind us,” he stated further. “And the good news is — as the president reflected just a few days ago — we’re seeing great progress even in the areas most profoundly impacted by the coronavirus. We’re seeing stabilization. We’re seeing a drop in hospitalizations. We’re seeing a decline in cases. And it’s all a testament to the American people, to their willingness to put into practice the social distancing guidelines that we unveiled 45 days ago.”

“The president [has] said we’re open to additional support for states around the country. But, for now, our primary objective is to get America safely back open, get America back to work, and put the virus in the past,” Pence concluded.

“The United States has now conducted at least six million coronavirus tests and on Wednesday the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases head Dr. Anthony Fauci reported that experimental drug Remdesivir has a proven benefit in fighting the virus,” Fox News reported.

Pence added: “There is a high likelihood that if you’ve had this coronavirus in the past, that you will enjoy some immunity from it in the future. It’s among the reasons why our nation, should the coronavirus reemerge at any time in the future, our nation will be in a much better place.”

“If some of those early studies hold out, there will be an awful lot of Americans in the fall and in the winter of next year that actually enjoys a degree of immunity from the coronavirus. That will be a bulwark against this,” he added.

To Pence’s point, the number of new cases and deaths continues to decline across the country and several states have already begun to carefully reopen some businesses.
